About IAPB Canada

As a world leader in the field of plant biotechnology, Canada is a key member of the IAPB. Canada has been a member of the IAPB for over 25 years and hosted the 1989 IAPB International Conference.

To date, there are over 85 Canadian IAPB Members and the number is growing.

The 2008 IAPB Canadian Section Conference took place in Saskatoon in May, 2008.

IAPB Canadian Members

There are over 85 members from across Canada's biotech community, including representatives from industry, academia and government.

In December 2006, members of the IAPB selected Dr. Alison Ferrie, NRC-PBI, as IAPB's National Correspondent for Canada; following in the footsteps of Dr. Kris Pruski who stepped down from his role after 4 years of service.

As well as representing the Canadian biotechnology industry on behalf of the IAPB, Dr. Ferrie will also be responsible for new Canadian membership applications, and the IAPB conference in Canada in 2008 and raising the profile of the IAPB across Canada's biotechnology industry.

Dr. Ferrie has a MSc in Plant Sciences from the University of Manitoba and a PhD in Plant Biotechnology from the University of Saskatchewan.

She has over 16 years experience in the biotechnology industry and has been engaged in the development, optimization, and application of haploid production systems in a number of species, including Brassica, other crucifers, legumes, Apiaceae, Compositae, Labiatae, Boraginaceae, and Caryophyllaceae.

Over the years, Dr. Ferrie has worked with Government labs, Universities, and Industry, both nationally and internationally, on haploidy methodology and other tissue culture techniques. This has been in the form of collaborative projects, consortium projects, and training of staff and students (undergraduate and graduate).

Dr. Ferrie has been a member of the IAPB (formerly IAPTC, IAPTC&B) for many years.
